Abstract
These Bye-laws of the Town Council of Selebi-Phikwe provide rules for the operation of the municipal abattoir in the Selebi-Phikwe Town and the hygienic handling of meat. They also place restrictions on the slaughtering of animals and provide for the health inspection of animals to be slaughtered and the inspection of carcases of slaughtered animals.
The carcass of a slaughtered animal shall be inspected by a meat inspector before the removal of any meat or other parts of the animal. Carcasses shall be marked after slaughter with the mark of the owner, and, if found healthy, with a health mark. The Bye-laws also prohibit the introduction into the city of any carcass or any butchers' meat of animals (other than game) slaughtered outside the city unless such animals were slaughtered at an abattoir approved by the council and provide for condemnation of unhealthy meat.
