Abstract
This Act provides for the establishment of the Botswana Bureau of Standards and the Standards Council. The Bureau shall be a body corporate and shall be responsible for the promotion and implementation of standards. It shall be supervised by the Council. The Minister shall appoint a Managing Director of the Bureau. The Minister may, on the recommendation of the Bureau, in respect of commodities or manufacturing processes set standard requirements and adopt standard marks.
Use of standard specifications or marks requires a licence to be issued by the Bureau. The Bureau shall carry out control over licensed commodities. The Act prescribes penalties for offences committed under this Act.
