Agreement on the prevention and extinguishment of wildfires in the border areas of the CIS member states.

The Parties shall establish on the territory of each signatory CIS member state a zone for joint protection of territories from wildfires, which will include a 10-kilometer-wide strip from the state border line between neighboring States parties to this Agreement. The Parties shall cooperate in the joint protection of the border zone of the territories of the CIS member states against wildfires through their authorized (competent) bodies in accordance with this Agreement, in compliance with the legislation and international treaties of the CIS member states parties to this Agreement. Competent bodies of the Parties shall: (a) ensure control over the prevention of wildfires, coordinate and implement measures to prevent and eliminate wildfires in the border zone; (b) take measures to organize the extinguishing of wildfires on the territory of the Parties, including border zone, in order to prevent their spreading to the territory of another state; (c) organize training courses for staff for prevention and extinguishment of wildfires; (d) organize and conduct interstate exercises on cooperation in the event of transboundary fires; (e) organize during the fire season monitoring of the state of the border zone by ground, aviation and space means and exchange received data through communication centers; and (f) exchange information within the framework of this Agreement.
