Abstract
This Decree establishes that sanitary protection area shall be set for the purpose of reducing hazardous impact of ionizing radiation originating from the use of nuclear energy on public health. Observation point shall be set with a view of obtaining reliable information on natural radiation background and radioactive pollution of the atmospheric air. Potential risks of nuclear plant and (or) storage point shall be determined in consideration of potential radiation impact on the population and environment in case of nuclear disaster. Nuclear plants and storage points shall be classified in three categories: (a) with possible radiation impact on the population requiring radiation shield; (b) with possible radiation impact limited to the personnel within sanitary protection area; and (c) with possible radiation impact on the personnel within nuclear plant and storage point. Sanitary protection area shall be set around nuclear plants and storage points of all categories while nearby nuclear plants and storage points of the first category shall be additionally set observation point.
