Abstract
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection is the authorized environmental institution carrying out the following tasks: (a) elaboration and implementation of the common state policy in the sphere of environmental protection and rational nature management; (b) the state control over the observance of environmental safety standards, use of surface water and groundwater, atmospheric air, animal and plant species, protected areas, minerals and peat, protection of soil, ozone layer and waste management; (c) provision of the population with environmental information; (d) international cooperation. The Ministry carries out the following functions: (a) environmental audit; (b) environmental monitoring; (c) registration of zoological collections; (d) authorization for the transfer of wild animals (except for fishes and aquatic invertebrates) to new habitats, for the use of wildlife for scientific, aesthetic and educational purposes, capture of rare and endangered animals for captive breeding; (e) keeping of Red Book; (f) issuance and annulment of the authorization for burial (storage) of domestic and non-domestic waste.
