Resolution No. 60 of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food validating Veterinary and Sanitary Rules for the prevention, diagnosis and elimination of bovine spongiform encephalopathy.

These Veterinary and Sanitary Rules establish mandatory requirements for compliance by legal entities and individuals, including individual entrepreneurs, regarding the safety of work and services related to the maintenance, raising, breeding, movement, sale, slaughter of cattle, disposal, burial, destruction of cattle carcasses, animal products, feed and feed additives, production, procurement, storage, processing and movement of animal products, production, procurement and storage of feed and feed additives, aimed at the prevention, diagnosis and elimination of bovine spongiform encephalopathy. In order to prevent the introduction of the causative agent of bovine spongiform encephalopathy into the territory of the Republic of Belarus, it is prohibited to use feed of animal origin (meat and bone meal, protein briquettes and feed containing meat and bone meal or protein briquettes, etc.), with the exception of milk, for feeding cattle. A preliminary diagnosis of bovine spongiform encephalopathy is made on the basis of clinical symptoms and the results of laboratory studies (tests). If bovine spongiform encephalopathy is suspected, it is necessary to inform the state veterinary service and implement the following restrictive measures: (a) isolate cattle sick and suspected of having spongiform encephalopathy; (b) prohibit visits to animal keeping premises by unauthorized persons, except for personnel servicing cattle and veterinary specialists; and (c) stop slaughtering and selling animals and products of their slaughtering.
