Strategy for scientific, technical and innovative development in the field of environmental protection and sustainable use of natural resources 2021-2025.

Strategy for scientific, technical and innovative development in the field of environmental protection and sustainable use of natural resources 2021-2025 is a nationwide policy document aimed at determination of priority areas for conducting fundamental research and performing applied scientific and technical work to ensure a balanced use of natural resources in the context of the principles of sustainable development and taking into account climate change, environmental security, preventing and reducing the harmful impact on the environment of economic and other activities, improving the environmental monitoring system environment, solving global and regional environmental problems, as well as developing and improving the efficiency of the functioning of scientific organizations subordinate to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Belarus.
The objectives of the Strategy shall be as follows: (a) development and improvement of the efficiency of scientific, research and technical activities, formation of a market for scientific and technical products and services: eco-technologies, eco-innovations; (b) implementation of a closed circuit "science - practical application" to solve the following problems: regulation and sustainable reduction of harmful impact on the environment; ensuring environmentally favorable conditions for the life of society and citizens on the basis of the maximum possible conservation of natural systems; rehabilitation of polluted, degraded and other ecologically destabilized territories and ecosystems, restoration of their biospheric functions; prevention of the harmful effects of waste and their disposal facilities on the environment; increasing the efficiency of using natural resource potential to meet the present and future needs of society; conservation and rational use of biological and landscape diversity, their sustainable reproduction; reducing the impact on the climate, adapting to its changes and mitigating the consequences of these processes; creation of conditions for the effective use of information obtained as a result of environmental monitoring to ensure an operational comprehensive assessment of the environmental situation and the adoption of appropriate management decisions in the field of environmental protection and rational use of natural resources; improving the efficiency of hydrometeorological activities; (c) development and strengthening of the scientific potential of scientific organizations subordinated to the Ministry of Natural Resources; and (d) development and strengthening of scientific and technical cooperation in the field of environmental protection and sustainable use of natural resources with scientific institutions of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, higher educational institutions, other institutions and organizations.
The main directions of the Strategy shall be as follows: (a) scientific support of activities aimed at the rational use and protection of water resources; (b) scientific support of activities aimed at protecting and improving the quality of atmospheric air; (c) scientific support of activities aimed at the rational use and protection of land resources; (d) scientific support of activities aimed at reducing the technogenic (or anthropogenic) impact on the environment in the process of waste management; (e) scientific support for activities aimed at the rational use and protection of biological diversity, the preservation of natural ecological systems, biotopes; and (f) scientific activity in the field of hydrometeorology, radiation safety of the population, climate change.
The Strategy is focused on solving social and environmental problems, with the receipt of scientific and technical products, which mainly have a social and environmental effect.
