Abstract
These Regulations make provision for the control of placing on the market in Belize and the importation into Belize and exportation from Belize of fish and fisheries products for commercial purposes. The 62 regulations are divided into 5 Parts: Preliminary (I); Import and export (II); Labelling (III); Code markings (IV); Quality requirements (V).
All fish and fisheries products shall be subject to control by an inspector appointed by the Belize Agricultural Health Authority (reg. 3). Regulation 6 lays down general requirements of wholesomeness of imported or exported fish and lays down specific requirements for the importation of fish. Fish import permits shall be issued by the Managing Director appointed under section 8 of the Act. Fish importers shall maintain records in accordance with provisions contained in regulation 8. The inspector may attach numbered tags for identification to containers of fish and fisheries products under regulation 13. No person shall use a vessel for fishing or for transporting fish or fishery products unless the vessel meets the requirements set out in Schedule IIII. Frequent reference is made to implementation of HACCP programmes. Regulation 27 concerns the issuing of a fish export licence. Provisions of Part V set out requirements specific to the processing of a fish species or the manufacture, etc. of specified fisheries products. (completed by 6 Schedules)
