Abstract
The Belize Low Emission Development Strategy (LEDS) defines pathways to achieve low emission development in Belize until 2050. It contains seven chapters: 1. Introduction; 2. Pathways towards low emissions development in Belize; 3. Potential impact of mitigation options on GHG emissions; 4. Potential impact of mitigation options on costs and jobs; 5. Prioritization of mitigation options in each sector; 6. High-Level Action Plan; and 7. Interaction of the LEDS with other policies and strategies.
Chapter 1 provides the introduction, context, governance mechanism and the approach for the LEDS. Chapter 2 presents the overall emissions baseline and BAU projections and sector wise GHG emissions. Chapter 3 focuses on the potential impact of mitigation options in terms of reduction of GHG emissions. Chapter 4 provides an estimate of the accumulated net effect of implementing the mitigation policies on both costs and job creation. Chapter 5 lays down the prioritization of mitigation options in each sector. Chapter 6 describes the LEDS Action Plan framework and includes 36 mitigation options across Forestry and Land Use; Agriculture; Energy; Transport; and Waste sectors. Chapter 7 explores the interactions of the LEDS with other national policies and strategies, including other climate policy frameworks, national development strategies, sector-specific policies and strategies.
