Abstract
The 39 sections of this Act are divided into 6 Parts: Preliminary (I); Establishment of the Trust and Board of Directors (II); Functions and powers of the Trust (III); Establishment of Advisory Council (IV); Financial Provisions/Accounts and Reports (V); Miscellaneous (VI).
The Act provides for the Establishment of: (a) the Protected Areas Conservation Trust; (b) an Advisory Council; (c) the Protected Areas Conservation Trust Fund; and (d) a Protected Areas Conservation Foundation. The Fund and the Foundation shall be established by the Board of Directors of the Trust, being a body corporate. The Board consists of government officials selected by specified Ministries and non-governmental representatives. The general function of the Board is to encourage and promote, through funding, the protection, conservation and enhancement of natural and cultural resources of Belize (sect. 16). The Council shall advise the Board and coordinate the preparation of the National Strategic Protected Areas Conservation Trust Plan made under section 34. The Plan shall outline policies and strategic directions to achieve the Trust's objective. The Act is completed by a Schedule in which activities which qualify for Trust funding are listed.
