Abstract
New sections, placed under the heading "Water Supply Systems in Rural Areas", are added to the Principal Act. The Minister may, by Order published in the Gazette, declare any rural area of the country, to be a rural water supply area. For every rural water supply area there shall be established a Board of Management. The Board, a body corporate, shall consist of seven members appointed by the Minister (sect. 109). The Board shall: (a) be responsible for all operations and maintenance activities in order to ensure uninterrupted service to the respective communities; (b) regulate pumping hours to ensure constant water supply; (c) the ensure that proper records and accounts are maintained; (d) to undertake expansion of the rural water supply system as required; (e) to carry out disconnection procedures; (f) to collect user-fees; (g) to effectively and efficiently undertake any other function related to the rural water supply system (sect. 110).
