Abstract
The purpose of this Convention is to protect the stock of anadromous finfish, molluscs, crustaceans and all other marine animals and plants except mammals (as listed in Part I of the Annex) in the Convention Area being an area in the North Pacific described in article 1. Directed fishing for anadromous fish in the Convention Area is prohibited (art. III). Each Party shall enforce the measures proposed in the Convention with respect to fishing vessels flying its flag and further in accordance with the rules laid down in Article V. Article VI concerns the exchange of information between the Parties, whereas Article VII provide for cooperation in scientific research. The North Pacific Anadromous Fish Commission, having the objective of promotion of the conservation of anadromous stocks in the Convention Area, is established under Article VIII. The Commission shall establish such subordinate bodies as it deems necessary. The Commission shall have powers of promotion and recommendation as specified in Article IX.
