Abstract
The purposes of this Act are (a) to affirm the application of the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples set out in the Schedule to the laws of British Columbia; (b) to contribute to its implementation, and (c) to support the affirmation of, and develop relationships with, Indigenous governing bodies.
In order to achieve its objectives the Act establishes the due steps and initiatives that the government of British Columbia must undergo; these include measures to align laws with UN Declaration (section 3), including prepare and implement an action plan (section 4), annual reports (section 5) and foster collaboration, consultation and cooperation with the Indigenous peoples in British Columbia and Indigenous governing bodies, rights and special needs of indigenous people (section 6-7).
