Abstract
The purpose of this Act, as stated in section 2, is to "renew the forest economy of British Columbia, enhance the productive capacity and environmental value of forest lands, create jobs, provide training for forest workers and strengthen communities". The Forest Renewal Corporation is continued (sect. 3). In order to implement this Act the Corporation may enter into contracts with individuals, first nations (native communities), businesses, institutions, local governments and other organizations, provide financial assistance, enter into agreements with the Government of Canada, provincial governments, etc. (sect. 4). The Board may establish committees in relation to the following objectives: increasing investment in forest land and resources, forest industry diversification, processing of wood supply, increased manufacture of wood products, investment in the "environmental values of the forest", fostering forest employment opportunities and job training, supporting community development (sect. 5). The remaining provisions concern administrative matters relating to the Corporation's functions, revenue and investment.
