Abstract
The present Regulations enforce the Health of Animal Act (S.C. 1990, c. 21). At the outset the Regulations defines certain terms, such as “accredited veterinarian”, “animal by-product”, “animal pathogen”, etc. Section 4 establishes that an inspector may inspect any animal in Canada that: a) is affected or suspected of being affected with a communicable disease; b) has been in contact with an animal so affected; c) is in an eradication area; or d) is imported or tendered for import into Canada. The text consists of 202 sections divided into 16 Parts as follows: Segregation and inspection of animals (I); Importation (II); Importation of animal products (III); Importation of animal by-products, animal pathogens and other things (IV); Importation of fodder (V); Importation of packing material, beehives and beeswax (VI); Quarantine of imported animals (VII); Exportation of animals, animal products and products of rendering plants (VIII); Eradication of diseases (IX); General provisions (X); Veterinary biologics (XI); Transportation of animals (XII); Permits and licences (XIII); Food for ruminants, livestock and poultry, rendering plants, fertilizers and fertilizer supplements (XIV); Animal identification (XV); Aquatic animals (XVI).
