Abstract
Living Water Smart, British Columbia's Water Plan is government’s vision and plan to keep British Columbia water healthy and secure for the future. The Plan draws on a variety of policy ‘tools’ including planning, regulatory change, education, and incentives like economic instruments and rewards.
The Plan focuses on three strategies of action: 1) Doing business differently. This section outlines changes government will make to the way it regulates and does business with water. By implementing these actions, there will be positive benefit to the way water, and environment, is valued. 2) Preparing communities for change. This section outlines a shift in thinking from taking water for granted to designing communities to live in harmony with water. Innovation and designs will consider changing climate, economic, and social contexts, to be prepared for climate change and enhance quality of life. 3) Choosing to be water smart. This section outlines new policies and actions in water demand management and has the aim to help reduce water use in the home. This section also recognizes the importance of getting the science and information needed to make good water decisions.
