Abstract
The present Regulation lays down provisions relating to the inspection of meat in the province of British Columbia. The Regulation focuses above all on the operating, maintenance and inspection of slaughter establishments. In particular, in conducting an inspection of an animal or carcass in a slaughter establishment and in determining if an animal or carcass in a slaughter establishment is to be passed, held or condemned, an inspector must apply the standards related to food safety and animal health established under the Food and Drugs Act (Canada) and the Meat Inspection Act (Canada). A licence holder must ensure that an animal in the slaughter establishment is kept before slaughter and slaughtered in accordance with the provisions relating to the humane treatment of animals in section 28 and Part III of the Meat Inspection Regulations (Canada). The text consists of 36 sections divided into 5 Parts as follows: Definitions and applications (1); Designation and licensing (2), Obligations of operator (3); Operation of slaughter establishments (4); Offences (5).
