Packaging, Paper Products and Packaging-Like Products Material Management Standard Adoption Regulations, NS Reg 142/2023.

Through these Regulations the Minister of Environment and Climate Change adopts, under clause 8A(1)(c) of the Environment Act, the Packaging, Paper Products and Packaging-Like Products Material Management Standard developed by the Department of Environment and Climate Change, as amended or replaced from time to time. This standard sets out the minimum material management requirements for the prescribed designated materials in the Extended Producer Responsibility for Packaging, Paper Products and Packaging-Like Products Regulations. The minimum material management requirements that a producer must meet for each material category are set out in percentages under section 4 for paper, rigid plastic, flexible plastic, metal, and glass. The Standard also establishes that the producer shall only report material that was processed by a registered processor and reported in the name of the producer or, if reported in the name of the producer’s producer responsibility organization, that the producer responsibility organization reported as allocated to the producer through the reporting requirements under the Regulation to satisfy the producer’s management requirement in the previous calendar year.
