Abstract
This Regulation applies to every petroleum storage and distribution facility in British Columbia; the Regulation specifies the legal requirements for managing stormwater contaminated with hydrocarbons to prevent environmental pollution. Facilities must have a separator system or equivalent to ensure that effluent discharged complies with the regulation. The system should capture petroleum from water effluent, and its design must be certified by a professional engineer in British Columbia. Operators can introduce effluent into the environment provided the total extractable hydrocarbon does not exceed 15 mg/L1. The document details the sampling protocol and analytical methods for determining this metric. Operators are responsible for regular inspections, maintenance, and record-keeping to ensure the proper functioning of the separator system. They must also register their facilities with a director, providing specific information about the facility and its waste management systems. The document stipulates fines for contraventions, including a fine for violating effluent standards or submitting false data.
