Abstract
The Regulation defines terms “placer mineral” and provides exemptions for certain classes of operations from sections 6 (2) and (3) of the Act, given that conditions in section 3 are met and information is provided to a director upon request. It moreover describes classes of operations, activities, industries, or works that are exempt from certain sections of the Act, particularly those related to discharges of waste from mining a placer mineral. It includes conditions such as not using mercury or chemicals, the size of the washwater intake, and the management of tailings ponds. Transitional provisions for permit applications in progress, including exemptions and application deadlines are detailed.
