Abstract
A Regulation to provide for the quality of potable water. It only applies to the waterworks systems specified in comma 2 of section 1. Except where this Regulation provides otherwise, the person responsible for a waterworks system shall ensure that this Regulation is complied with. A waterworks system must be designed, operated and maintained to achieve under all normal and foreseeable operating conditions all water quality requirements as specified in this Regulation or an approval. Section 4 sets out standards for the design of a waterworks system. The physical, microbiological, chemical and radiological characteristics of the potable water in the waterworks system must be maintained to meet defined minimum standards (sect. 6). Section 7 defines standards for water treatment. ) No person responsible for a waterworks system shall use or permit the use of a chemical for the treatment of water that is not listed in: (a) an approval; or (b) the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) Standard 60 or 61 pertaining to direct and indirect additives to drinking water, unless he first obtains the written authorisation of the Director. The day to day operation of the water treatment plant and water distribution system in a waterworks system must be supervised directly by the number of certified operators specified by the Director in an approval. Remaining sections deal with use disinfecting and fluoridation of potable water.
