Abstract
The Regulated Forest Management Profession Act is organised in 9 Parts. The Act establishes the “Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals” (AAFMP) as a self-governing professional regulatory organization responsible for the governance of Registered Professional Foresters and Registered Professional Forest Technologists competencies previously managed respectively by the College of Alberta Professional Foresters and the College of Alberta Professional Forest Technologists.
Part 1 concerns the governance of the association, and regulates the role of the Council, Chair and Registrar and Committee. Furthermore it lays down rules for Committee membership, complains inquiry committee and tribunals, committee panels, and delegation.
Part 2 lays down the rules for registration, these include: application request and review, maintenance of register, practice permit application, renewal, suspension, cancellation, and reinstatement.
Part 3 requires the Council to establish, by regulation, a continuing competence program that must provide for regulated members to maintain competence and to enhance the provision of professional services.
Part 4 concerns the professional conduct of regulated members and provides rules on complaining process, alternative resolution options, investigation, hearing, decisions, and appeals stages.
Part 5 considers how regulated members conduct business arrangements with other subjects and establishes the ultimate responsibility on the registered member for how the code of ethics and the standards of practice are respected while providing professional services.
Part 6 on other matters regulates access to regulated members information, evidence of registration, among others. Part 7 concerns Title Protection, such as titles and abbreviations. Part 8 entails Council Regulations and Bylaws, Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice. Part 9 lists amendments and repeals (the Act repeals previous Forestry Profession Act, RSA 2000, c F-21).
