Abstract
The present Act lays down provisions relating to food commodities, including their inspection, safety, labelling and advertising, their import, export and interprovincial trade, the establishment of standards for them, the registration or licensing of persons who perform certain activities related to them, the establishment of standards governing establishments where those activities are performed and the registration of establishments where those activities are performed. In particular, the purpose of the above-mentioned Act is to: a) make food as safe as possible for Canadian families; b) protect consumers by targeting unsafe practices; c) implement tougher penalties for activities that put health and safety at risk; d) provide better control over imports; e) institute a more consistent inspection regime across all food commodities; and f) strengthen food traceability. Section 3 establishes the Canada Food Inspection Agency. The text consists of 75 sections.
