Abstract
The present Regulations enact the Environment Act. The Regulations lay down provisions relating to the management of solid waste. In particular, section 4 establishes the Resource Recovery Fund to: a) develop and implement industry stewardship programmes; b) fund municipal or regional diversion programmes; c) develop and operate a deposit-refund system for beverage containers; d) develop education and awareness of source reduction, reuse, recycling and composting; and e) promote the development of value-added manufacturing in the Province.
The first Division lays down provisions relating to solid waste reduction and consists of the following Parts: Resource recovery (I); Industry stewardship (II); Litter abatement (III); Composting (IV): The second Division concerns disposal of municipal solid waste; the third is on regional solid waste-resource management plans - regional requirements and finally the fourth Division deals with financial assistance.
Entry into force notes
The present Regulations enter into force on 6 February 1996.
