Abstract
This Regulation concerns the control of air emissions and is divided in 4 Parts. Part 1 is dedicated to visible emissions, it contains provisions on certification of emission readers and also sets the maximum opacity of visible emissions. Part 2 refers to particulate release and determines, among others, the maximum concentration of particulates in each effluent stream from a source to the ambient air. Part 3 is for gaseous emissions from vinyl chloride and polyvinylchloride plants. Part 4 contains general provisions and affirms the due diligence defense, according to which no person shall be convicted of an offence under this Regulation if that person establishes on a balance of probabilities that he took all reasonable steps to prevent its commission (sect. 16).

This Regulation repeals the Clean Air (Maximum Levels) Regulations (AR 218/75) and the Clean Air (General) Regulations (AR 216/75).The present Regulation is consolidated up to 114/2006.
