Abstract
The purpose of this Act is to protect certain species of animals and plants, particularly by implementing the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of wild fauna and flora and regulating international and interprovincial trade in animals and plants. The Minister may enter an agreement with the government of any province to provide for the cooperative management and administration of this Act. No person shall import into Canada any animal or plant that was taken, or any animal or plant, or any part or derivative of an animal or plant, that was possessed, distributed or transported in contravention of any law of any foreign state (sect. 6). Section 7 provides for permits for the transportation of an animal or plant, or any part or derivative of an animal or plant. Section 8 prohibits possession of animal or plant, or any part or derivative of an animal or plant that has been imported or transported in contravention of this Act. Section 10 concerns federal permits for the importation, exportation or interprovincial transportation of an animal or plant, or any part or derivative of an animal or plant. Remaining provision deal with inspection and other powers of enforcement, regulation making powers of the Governor in Council, and prescribe offences.
