Abstract
The Biosecurity Plan for Palmerston, Manihiki and Penrhyn Islands of the Cook Islands lays down biosecurity measures to protect and enhance island communities and ecosystem resilience to climate change through effective management of invasive species. This plan promotes partnership and collaboration between people and agencies to protect Palmerston Island, Manihiki Island, Penrhyn Island and Suwarrow Island, from the invasion or re-invasion of invasive species. The objectives of the plan are to: (i) improve health and welfare for island communities; (ii) protect island communities from the harmful effects of new invasive species; (iii) protect and enhance native biodiversity; (iv) protect Palmerston community from the impacts of rats; and (v) strengthen relationships to enhance community protection and resilience. Appendix 1 sets out the list of invasive species.
