The National Seabed Minerals Policy is a national policy with a sectoral approach. The main purpose of this policy is to guide the planning and implementation of the Government’s sustainable management of the seabed mineral resources under the control of the Cook Islands and to enable the wise regulation of seabed minerals activities. This Policy shall apply to the regulation and management of seabed minerals activities both within national jurisdiction and in any parts of the global seabed that do not fall within a country’s national jurisdiction where as a signatory State to UNCLOS, Cook Islands may regulate and control seabed minerals activities by companies.
