Abstract
Subject to these by-laws, every person commits and offence if he: (a) takes or attempts to take paua (giant clams of the species tridacna maxima) from Aitutaki to any other island or place; or (b) buys, sells or has in his possession for the purpose of sale any paua, except pursuant to and in accordance with a permit granted by the Island Council. Purposes for which paua may be caught are specified in by-law 4. A permit may contain conditions regarding, inter alia, the number and size of paua that may be taken and the part of the lagoon from which paua may be taken.
