Abstract
These Regulations, made under sections 41 and 142 of the Public Health Act 2004, establish the Sewage and Sanitation Board and provide rules relative to the construction, operation and maintenance of sewage systems. The Board shall, among other things: approve the adoption of a Sewage Code and any amendments; adopt performance criteria for sewage systems; and approve the registration of sewage treatment units for individual islands, of sanitary professionals and technicians and of septic tank manufacturers. The Regulations also define functions of Sanitary Inspectors appointed by the Secretary of Health under these Regulations. Operators shall use ecological processes to prevent the discharge of untreated sewage into the environment. Any discharge of sewage to natural water or onto land shall meet the requirements of these Regulations.
