Protection Measures of Shaanxi Province on Geographical Indication Products.

These Measures are enacted to promote the development of geographical indication products in Shaanxi province, ensure the quality and characteristics of geographical indication products, and maintain the legitimate rights and interests of business operators and consumers. The Measures consist of 34 articles divided into 7 Chapters: General provisions; Agencies and their responsibilities; Application and review; Use of dedicated signs; Protection and supervision; Legal liabilities; Supplementary provisions.
The “geographical indication products” as mentioned in these Measures refer to those products which are named after geographical name after being examined and approved, which originate from a specific region, and whose quality, reputation or other characteristics depend on the natural factors and humane factors of the area of production. The Provincial People's Government shall establish a Committee for the Protection of Geographical Indication Products. The Committee shall fulfill the following responsibilities: （1） Responsible for the protection, supervision and management of geographical indication products throughout the province; （2） Responsible for the preliminary review and application of geographical indication products; （3） Responsible for the preliminary review of the application for the use of special marks of geographical indication products; （4） Guide applicants for geographical indication products to develop relevant standards or management specifications for the product; etc.
