Abstract
This Act approves the Water Code. It consists of 6 chapters establishing the general bases of the legal regime for the property, protection, conservation, development, administration and use of the water resources of the Republic of Cape Verde. This Act specifies national water plans, development of water resources, water use for irrigation purposes, waterworks and protected areas in order to preserve water springs, sanctions to be applied for water pollution (originated by animal or agricultural wastes), water and solid discharge, etc. It also provides technical assistance and financial incentives to be granted by the State, and establishes the composition, competence and duties of the National Council of Waters (CNAG). Chapter 4 specifies the requirements to be satisfied for obtaining the licence of water exploitation (expiration date, suspension, etc.) and the obligations of the licencee.
