Abstract
This Decree-Law establishes the legal regime for tourism in rural areas, as well as the installation, exploitation and operation of rural tourist establishments. It applies to all tourist activities carried out in rural areas, namely leisure, accommodation, catering, adventure, sports, entertainment and hospitality. In particular it regulates the following: a) Natural or legal persons who provide tourist services in rural areas; b) Agents and professionals who are part of the tourism sector in rural areas; c) Non-profit collective persons, which provide services to enhance the tourism sector in rural areas; d) Host communities of the tourist destination in rural areas; and e) Consumers of rural tourism services. This regime aims to favour the revitalization of rural development dynamics, promoting tourism in rural spaces, through the regulation of tourist activity, harmonizing with various interests of national importance, environmental protection and enhancement, agricultural impulse, fisheries and handicrafts.
