Decree No. 2/2024 approving the Loan Agreement, signed between the Republic of Cape Verde and the Saudi Fund for Development, regarding the Water Basin Rehabilitation Project on the islands of Santiago, Santo Ant o and Boa Vista.

This Decree approves the Loan Project Agreement for Rehabilitation of Watersheds in the Islands of Santiago, Santo Ant o and Boa Vista bewteen the Republic of Cape Verde and the Saudi Fund for Development. The project aims at achieving food security, reduce poverty, create additional job opportunities and improve the living conditions of the residents of the project area. This is done through the reclamation and preparation of irrigation water basins, the expansion of irrigated cultivation areas, the sustainable development of agricultural lands through soil erosion protection facilities, and alignment activities with climate change through awareness-raising and extension campaigns and training of beneficiaries on new techniques of agriculture. The project is part of the government`s program to reclaim and prepare three watersheds in the islands of Santiago (Sao joao Baptista watershed), santo Ant o (Riberia Grande watershed) and Boa vista (Calhau watershed) The project includes the mobilization of water resources, and the development of irrigated and rain-fed agriculture, the development of forest and animal production, and the preservation of the environment.
