Abstract
This Law gives the legislative authorization to the Government to approve the special legal regime for the protection and conservation of sea turtles. In particular, it establishes their classification as a vulnerable species of protected fauna threatened with extinction; lists prohibited activities; regulates observation, research and teaching; accidental catch; duties of citizens and public authorities and the role of non-governmental organizations for the protection and preservation of the environment; and the commercial use or exploitation of the image of sea turtles. In addition, the Law classifies different offences and penalties for illegal activities against sea turtles species, such as: capture, detention or killing of any species; acquisition of species of live or dead marine turtles, including eggs and debris; marketing of sea turtle species, including eggs, embalmed and any other product; transport or landing of live or non-living species of sea turtles; export outside the country, including for scientific research purposes, without the prior authorization of the environmental authority; consumption of meat, etc.
