Resolution No. 45/2023 approving the National Action Plan to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (PAN-INN) for the period 2023 to 2026.

This Resolution approves the National Action Plan to prevent, deter and eliminate illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (PAN-INN) for the period 2023 to 2026. The above mentioned Plan of Action, consisting of eight Sections and one Annex, aims to update information, raise the awareness of all stakeholders linked to the fisheries sector, and promote training. In addition, in accordance with the International Action Plan aimed at preventing, preventing and eliminating IUU fishing (PAI- INN) adopted by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in 2001, it aims to comply with the measures, recommendations or resolutions adopted by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas, FAO, by the Sub-Regional Fisheries Commission, by the European Union or other regional and international fisheries management bodies to which Cape Verde is a party, such as the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries, CPLP, within the framework of which the Instrument for the Creation of the Cooperation Platform for the Promotion of Sustainable Fishing and the Prevention, Combat and Elimination of Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing among the Member States.
The new PAN-INN is yet another step towards achieving Goal 14 (14.4/14.6) of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations: “effectively regulate capture and end overfishing, illegal, unreported and unregulated and destructive fishing practices and implement science-based management plans in order to restore fisheries resources in the shortest possible time, at least to levels that can produce the maximum sustainable yield determined by their biological characteristics”.
