Resolution No. 93/2020 approving the Annual Executive Plan for Fisheries Resources Management for the year 2020.

This Resolution approves the Annual Executive Plan for Fisheries Resources Management (PGRP) for the year 2020. PGRP 2020 is a management instrument that determines and guides the implementation of measures leading to the sustainable management and exploitation of fisheries resources, as well as the licensing of fishing activities. It is fundamental document for good governance of fisheries and seeks to respond to the national challenges, namely: increasing food and nutritional security and to promote the competitiveness of the sector, in a context of guaranteeing quality and resource sustainability. The Plan is in perfect harmony with the Fisheries Resource Management Plan, Strategic Research Plan and is also aligned with the principles and commitments assumed by Cape Verde at the international level. The specific objectives arising from the PGRP are formulated as follows: “Cape Verde's Fisheries increasingly contribute to the improvement of national production, the reduction in the Balance of Payments deficit, the increase in food security, the guarantee of product quality fisheries and increased employment”. The main beneficiaries are particularly fisherfolks, shipowners, owners of processing industries and workers in the fishing sector.
One of the indispensable tools for an effective ordering of the fishing activity are the Fisheries Management Plans. Its importance is reflected in the organization, coordination and prioritization of the various actions necessary for fisheries management, in order to, among others: 1. Maximize economic and social income; 2. Ensure the conservation and recovery of species and habitats; and 3. Safeguard sustainable fisheries management. Management plans are essential and allow to minimize/eliminate specific and emergency protection measures that often surprise interested parties and are insufficient to ensure the maintenance or recovery of target species populations.
