Agreement between the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety Building of the Federal Republic of Germany and the United Nations Environment Programme concerning the establishment of a partnership under the Global Environment Monitoring System/Water Programme.

The present Agreement between the Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Protection, Construction and Nuclear Safety of the Federal Republic of Germany and the United Nations Environment Programme concerns the establishment of a partnership under the Global Environment Monitoring System/Water Programme. In particular, the contracting parties shall advance their common goals in the field of management and dissemination of information on water quality. The parties shall: a) support and promote the production, collection and exchange of and access to quality-assured data on the water quality of freshwater ecosystems; b) develop key indices and indicators for water quality; c) provide technical support and services for monitoring systems and programmes for assessment of water quality; d) support institutional and technical capacities for surveying and assessing the water quality and contribute to its improvement, in particular in developing countries and countries with economies in transition.
