Abstract
The aim of the strategy is to promote legume cultivation in Germany, which has declined significantly in recent years, and to expand the area under cultivation. Both the supply and the demand for locally produced legumes are to be strengthened as essential components of a sustainable agricultural economy. The focus is on conventional and organic cultivation. The objectives of the Policy are to improve ecosystem services and resource protection, to strengthen regional value chains, to increase protein supply from domestic production and to improve it with genetically protein carriers. Furthermore, the Policy refers to the issues of protein crop strategy, climate and environmental impacts of legumes, cultivation of legumes in Germany, agricultural policy measures and implementation of the strategy.
