Abstract
The General Equal Treatment law stipulates the aim of the law in section 1 being inter alia the elimination of discrimination on the grounds of sex, age, religion, ethnicity, handicap. Positive discriminatory measures may be taken only where suitable and appropriate measures are adopted to prevent or compensate for disadvantages (section 5). There is a general prohibition of discrimination in section 7, which stipulates that any discrimination by an employer or employee shall be deemed a violation of their contractual obligations. A right to complain with the relevant authorities in case of discrimination is to be found in section 13 (right to appeal).
