Abstract
The present Law implements the Animal Disease Act that regulates the measures to combat animal diseases in Berlin. It comprises various sections dealing with authorities and procedures, compensation and contributions, subsidies and the costs of combating animal diseases. Section I defines the authorities responsible for carrying out the tasks associated with the Animal Diseases Act in the state of Berlin. The police authority and the regulatory authority play an important role here. Section II deals with the granting of compensation and contributions in the event of animal losses due to animal diseases or epidemics. Regulations are laid down for determining the state of the disease, the entitlement to compensation and the obligation to pay compensation. Section III stipulates that monetary aid may be granted for animal losses due to animal diseases or epidemics. The amount of aid is determined by administrative regulations and may not exceed certain maximum rates. Section IV regulates the costs of combating animal diseases, including the costs to be borne by the State of Berlin and the other parties involved. Section V contains transitional and final provisions governing the entry into force and expiry of the Act. The text consists of 20 articles divided into 5 Parts as follows: Competent authorities and proceedings (I); Compensation and contribution (II); Subsidies (III); Costs concerning fight against animal diseases (IV); Transitional and final provisions (V).
