National Strategy for the Promotion of Breastfeeding.

The Policy is drafted further to the federal government strategies for the goal of making Germany more breastfeeding-friendly. The text provides for breastfeeding as the first form of nutrition and its positive effects and benefits for mothers and infants. The text refers to various framework recommendations, measures and initiatives that have been considered locally and internationally for promoting the concept of becoming breastfeeding-friendly. The Policy focuses on seven strategic areas that are: evidence-based guidelines, education, training and further education, prevention and care structures, municipal breastfeeding promotion, breastfeeding and work, marketing of breast milk substitutes and systematic breastfeeding monitoring. Implementation of the Policy requires enhanced cooperation, networking and communicative measures between different actors, professionals, relevant interest groups and those who participated in the preparation of this Policy.
