Abstract
This Action Plan is designed with the purpose of improvement of protection of biodiversity in Germany through species protection, reduction of pressure on biodiversity in normal landscape, designation of new protected areas including grassland, reducing ecological footprint in German lifestyle and cooperation and efforts of different actors in this sector. The Plan verifies 40 urgent measures that are assigned to ten priority fields of action to be observed by the actors for the purpose of conservation of biodiversity by 2020.
Section C of the Strategy refers to the 10 fields of action and measures until 2020 that include encouragement of farming in more environmental conservation practices, agricultural subsidies to the rural areas in light of Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) initiated by the EU, conservation of permanent grassland and grassland habitants, prevention of Genetic modification of plants, reduction of nitrogen inputs and considering biomass action plan. The text further refers to the use of the EU's Common Fisheries Policy that opens up opportunities for more nature-friendly fisheries, reserving protected areas in Germany's exclusive economic zone (EEZ) in the North Sea and Baltic Sea and national parks and biosphere reserves, flood protection and forest protection. The fields action include further determination of wilderness areas through support of people, enhancing network for protected areas and enhancing cooperation for wild protection, green space development and implementing a comprehensive biodiversity monitoring scheme. Implementation of this Plan requires political support at the federal, state and local levels as well as a joint effort by all stakeholders in the society. The text consists of 5 Sections.
