Abstract
This Act aims at ensuring that those responsible for imminent or existing threats of environmental damages prevent and alleviate these damages and are liable to all incurred costs thereof. The Act does not apply to emissions or events that led to damage or danger occurred more than 30 years ago, and (art. 6) does not affect the right to limit liability of those responsible for environmental damages in adherence to Chapter 9 of the Marine Act. The Act covers the investigation and remedy of environmental damage caused by an occupational activity, and where an authority's decision identifying who may be held liable for the environmental damage or imminent threat for environmental damage. Art. 20 - The Ministry of Environment and Food of Denmark shall order the liable party to provide information and conduct assessments on how the environmental damage remedy and prevention shall take place by sampling, analyzing and measuring these hazardous substances to clarify causes, extent of damage and remedy requirements. The Act applies to damages occurred after 1 July 2008.

Entry into force notes
This Act enters into force on 1 July 2008. The Minister of Environment shall decide on entry into force of article 4, section 1, No. 6, points c and d.
Notes
This is the consolidated version of Act No. 916 of 3 July 2015.The Act does not apply to Greenland nor to the Faroe Islands. Nevertheless, it may enter into force if special Faroese and Greenland conditions apply.
