Marine Strategy Act (No. 522 of 2010).

The purpose of this Act is to establish the framework for measures to be implemented to achieve or maintain good environmental status in marine ecosystems and enable the sustainable use of marine resources. The Minister of Environment shall prepare marine strategies to: 1) Protect, preserve, and prevent the degradation of the marine environment and, where possible, restore marine ecosystems in areas where they have been negatively impacted; 2) Prevent and reduce inputs to the marine environment with the aim of gradually eliminating pollution and ensuring that there are no significant impacts on or risks to marine biodiversity, marine ecosystems, or human health or the legitimate uses of the sea; 3) Ensure the marine ecosystems' ability to handle changes, and; 4) Ensure that the overall pressure from human activities is compatible with achieving good environmental status. The Act covers Danish marine areas, including the seabed and subsoil, within the territorial sea and the exclusive economic zones.
