Order No. 1005 on the entry into force for Greenland of the Act on Exclusive Economic Zones.
Country
Abstract
This Order, issued by the Danish Government, brings into force in Greenland the Danish Law on Exclusive Economic Zones (Law No. 411 of 22 May 1996). The law establishes Denmark’s exclusive economic zone (EEZ) extending up to 200 nautical miles from its baselines, regulates how boundaries with neighboring states are determined (typically by the median line principle), and grants Denmark sovereign rights for exploring, exploiting, conserving, and managing natural resources in the seabed, subsoil, and waters, as well as jurisdiction over artificial islands, installations, scientific research, and marine environmental protection. The decree makes this framework legally applicable to Greenland as of 1 November 2004.
