Abstract
This Order brings into force in Greenland the Danish Act on the Maintenance of Children, making parents individually responsible for financially supporting their child. If a parent fails to meet this obligation, the High Commissioner in Greenland may order that parent to pay child maintenance, normally monthly and at a standard rate, with adjustments possible based on income, cost of living, or special circumstances such as conception through criminal acts. Maintenance normally ends at age 18 but may be extended to age 24 for education. The decree also allows for special one-off contributions related to birth, naming, confirmation, illness, or other significant events. Applications must be submitted digitally unless exceptions apply; decisions can be appealed to the Minister for Social Affairs.
