Abstract
This Order regulates mandatory vaccination against Newcastle disease for poultry and captive birds, and the national movement, sale and gathering of birds vaccinated against the disease, supplementing EU animal-health rules. Operators of poultry establishments must ensure vaccination against Newcastle disease, subject to exemptions for operators keeping fewer than 100 poultry, poultry kept indoors and slaughtered before 10 weeks of age, certain game birds bred for release, and ducks and geese; however, poultry or captive birds participating in shows, exhibitions, markets or similar gatherings must generally be vaccinated. Vaccinated birds must be kept physically separate from unvaccinated birds unless vaccination was carried out only with an inactivated vaccine. The Order also sets exemptions for certain non-flying or enclosed birds at gatherings, requires operators to keep vaccination records for two years and provide vaccination documentation when birds are moved or traded nationally, and requires organisers of competitions, exhibitions, markets and similar events to check vaccination documentation and exclude birds without it. The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration may prohibit events or order exclusion of non-compliant birds, and breaches may be punished by fines or, in serious intentional or grossly negligent cases involving danger to human or animal health or economic gain, imprisonment of up to two years.
