Abstract
This regulation establishes the Rules of Procedure for the Appeals Board for Maritime Affairs. It defines the Board’s jurisdiction to handle appeals concerning decisions made under various maritime laws, including those on ship crews, maritime safety, diving work, seafarers’ employment, and marine environmental protection. The Board, chaired by a High Court judge appointed by the Minister for Business and Growth, comprises representatives from seafarers’ unions, shipowners’ associations, shipyards, and the Health Authority. It functions with administrative support from the Danish Maritime Authority. Cases are usually handled in writing but may be heard orally at the chair’s discretion. Decisions are made by majority vote and cannot be appealed to any higher administrative authority. The regulation also outlines procedures for hearings, confidentiality, decision-making, record-keeping, and entry into force (1 October 2013), replacing the previous 2005 regulation.
