Abstract
The Strategy for Organics, by the Danish Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, outlines Denmark’s roadmap to double its organic agricultural area, consumption, and exports by 2030. This Strategy builds on Denmark’s legacy as a pioneer in organic legislation and positions organic farming as a key pillar in the green transition. It includes plans to reach 21% of agricultural land under organic management and to increase organic food sales and exports significantly. The Strategy combines public and private sector initiatives, enhanced subsidies, professional education, and support for research and innovation. Key actions include incentives for farm conversion, better nutrient management, expanded organic education programs, and the promotion of organic food in public institutions and professional kitchens.
The plan also addresses structural barriers such as access to organic nutrients and feed, challenges in organic aquaculture, and underutilized public land. The government aims to strengthen the organic market through marketing campaigns, public procurement policies, and support for exports via international cooperation and trade promotion. A significant focus is placed on research, with substantial funding allocated for innovation, agronomic practices, and consumer behavior studies. The Strategy is interlinked with broader national policies, including the Danish Action Plan for Plant-based Foods and the Strategy for Green Proteins, reinforcing Denmark’s commitment to sustainable, high-welfare food systems at both the national and global level.
